The Sourcing
bambu® uses only natural, renewable materials because we know you don’t want toxic chemicals in or around your food, or home.
We use food safe oils, water-based adhesives, natural finishes and wastewater management practices in our production. Our USDA certified organic utensils and kids products go one step further. These are finished with a certified organic oil.
Our certified organic products are made from sustainably sourced bamboo. The source is certified to be free of pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals.
The Sustainability
In selecting the raw material, we place a lot of importance on the production process. We consider to what extent this process and the product impacts the environment, for example the amount of water used in production is filtered and reused. We also use the bamboo waste from the process to fuel the small machines used to make our products. Working sustainably is very much a process of continuous improvement. Our goal is to make a product and workshop as “clean” as possible.
Our bamboo products are all produced in close proximity to our bamboo raw material source. We support traditional bamboo craftsmanship practices.
When certifications or sustainable solutions are not possible, we seek to work transparently and consciously, providing our customers with as much information about the production process in order that they can make an informed decision on their purchase.
Natural fibers such as organic cotton and renewables such as bamboo, hemp or cork are used at the heart of everything we make. bambu® uses only certified organic cotton.
We consider several aspects when thinking about packaging; what is it made from, where does it come from, how is it processed, its durability and end of life disposal. We strive to minimize the amount of packaging we use but also the type of material used. We look for ways to reduce waste at every opportunity. We are committed to finding solutions to minimize packaging and use paper from managed sources, and printed using low impact inks.
• Packaging cards, boxes and hangtags are made from FSC-certified papers.
• Catalogs are digital and when printed, small batch, we use FSC-certified paper that is 100% chlorine free and at least 20% recycled content.
• Packaging is printed using low VOC vegetable-based inks.
• Inner and master cartons are plastic free, using paper tape & labels.

Our focus on artisanal craft is a business practice we celebrate, with each product adding more distinction to our ever growing range. Every product holds a genuine personal touch. We find it reassuring that master craftsmanship is alive and well. Our products have been crafted by hand, often guided by tradition and family heritage.
We work exclusively with smaller, family-operated workshops with whom we have built a close, and lasting relationship with. In most cases we’ve been working with the same producers for over ten years and in one case, close to 20 years.
